Sonny Stitt
~ Person
Annotation
The Lone Wolf, born Edward Stitt, is a true jazz icon.
First under the influence of Charlie Parker, Mr Stitt eventually developped his own bop style, becoming a major influence for a new generation of saxophonists, amongst which such prestigious musicians as John Coltrane.
A master at both tenor and alto, Stitt recorded more than a hundred albums for various labels (Prestige, Verve, Atlantic...).
Curious people may start with Verve Jazz Masters 50, an excellent sampler of Stitt's Verve sessions, while more exigent bop fans will find a strangely redundant pleasure with Stitt Plays Bird (Atlantic).
