Abbey Lincoln

Annotation

Born Anna Marie Wooldridge in Chicago, also known as Animata Moseka, Abbey Lincoln is mainly acclaimed as a jazz singer and songwriter.
Once married to Max Roach, she performed with him on a number of landmark records, not to mention her own numerous major contributions - including works with Archie Shepp and Sonny Rollins, and of course the Candid gigs.
Most of her late records are to be found on Verve, where she featured with both new and old cats, in constantly challenging sessions.
Beginners can take a sure shot with either You Gotta Pay the Band ("late" Verve with Stan Getz) or the historical Straight Ahead (Candid).
