WIR (German fun rock band, founded 1988 (Hamburg))

WIR (nowadays also "WIR die Band") is a German fun rock band, which was founded in 1988 in northern Germany.
Relating to the description on their website the music they play is a kind of "wannabe punk with unpolitical meaningless lyrics".
Foundation members were Andi (vocals,guitar), Jens (guitar), Kalle (bass) and Patti (drums, backing vocals).
Their first LP "Wofür?" (for what) was released in 1991 under the Mad World Records label. After that Kalle left the band and Andre (also "Der Andere") joined the band and played bass and sang backing vocals until today. The first Mini-CD "5 Jahre und (k)ein Ende" (5 years and an (no) end in sight) was recorded in 1992 and was published in 1993 under strictly limitation of 50 CDs. The producer of that CD found that Andi shouldn't sing and play guitar at the same time, so Norbert joined the band for the next 2 years and played the fabulous rythm and solo guitar. Jens left the Band in the same year, so that Andi had to play guitar again. In 1994 Bohno joined the WIR-family and has been playing the rythm-guitar until yet.
Norbert left the Band in 1995 and Marci overtook the solo-guitar-part until 2002 and gave it to Tönjes, but he also left the Band after 3 Years.
Though in the following years several songs of them were published in Germany in compilations like the "Endzeit" series and the "JA!" sampler they mostly remained a live-band. Patti left the band in 1996 ans so there was a "creative" break during 1996 and 2000, where lots of new songs and a new show had been created. Since 1999 Magic plays drums at WIR.
Their new CD, planned for the last quarter of 2005, was recently introduced at their Helgoland concert in september 2006, where the band celebrated the 18th band-anniversary. A few month before a demo-CD "WIRaler Infekt" with 3 new Songs was released. However the full CD hasn't been released since yet. The new release date might be the 20th anniversary in September 2008.
