Death metal band based out of Buffalo, New York. One of the most incredibly influental bands in the death metal genre. Features members: George "Corpsegrinder" Fisher (vocals), Pat O'Brien (guitar), Alex Webster (bass), Paul Mazurkiewicz (drums and percussion), and Jeremy Turner (temporary guitar). A staple in any death metal fan's collection, Cannibal Corpse has met extreme success, or as much success as such an extreme band can get. By far the best selling death metal band in the world, they have sold millions of records worldwide and are the only death metal to enter the Billboard Top 200. Former singer Chris Barnes has gone on to form Six Feet Under, another death metal band, and has been plagued with criticism, especially by Seth Putnam, the vocalist of Anal Cunt. Former lead guitarist Jack Owens quit the band in 2004 due to lack of interest. Banned or censored in many many countries and locations, Cannibal Corpse is still a vital force in death metal. Their gorey band immagery and album art has been the target of thousands, including former Senator Bob Dole and former Vice President Al Gore, and has been banned in many places around the world, including, most notably, Germany, where it is illegal to play anything from their first three albums, all their album art has been censored, and it is illegal to buy their second full length, Butchered at Birth. They also appeared in a short section of the movie Ace Ventura: Pet Detective.
Cannibal Corpse is an American death metal band from Buffalo, New York. Formed in 1988, the band has released thirteen studio albums, two box sets, four video albums and one live album. The band has had little radio or television exposure throughout its career, although a cult following began to build behind the release of their 1991 album Butchered at Birth, and 1992 album Tomb of the Mutilated. Both albums achieved worldwide sales of one million copies by 2003, including 558,929 in the United States, making them the all-time top-selling death metal band in the country.
The members of Cannibal Corpse were originally inspired by thrash metal bands like Slayer and Kreator, as well as other death metal bands such as Morbid Angel, Autopsy and Death. The band's album art (most often by Vincent Locke) and lyrics, drawing heavily on horror fiction and horror films, are highly controversial. At different times, several countries have banned Cannibal Corpse from performing within their borders, or have banned the sale and display of original Cannibal Corpse album covers.Continue reading at Wikipedia...
