- On May 21, 2007, Steve Reich was awarded The Polar Prize from the Royal Swedish Academy of Music. Each year, one such award is given to a classical composer, with a second such award going to a pop or jazz composer. (Sonny Rollins was the winner in the pop or jazz category).
- On October 18, 2006, Steve Reich was awarded the Praemium Imperiale for music by Prince Hitachi at the Meiji Hall in Tokyo. The Praemium Imperiale awards are given annually by the Japan Art Association in five fields not covered by the Nobel Prizes: Painting, Sculpture, Architecture, Music and Theatre/Film.
- On August 14, 2005, Steve Reich was awarded the MacDowell Colony Arts Award at the Colony in Peterborough, NH, USA.
