Leona Louise Lewis (born 3 April 1985) is a British singer and songwriter. Lewis was born in London Borough of Islington and first came to prominence after winning the third series of The X Factor in 2006. She has sold 20 million records worldwide, more than any other contestant from The X Factor.
Her debut album, Spirit, was released in 2007, and sold over eight million copies worldwide. The album's most best selling single, "Bleeding Love", reached number one in over 30 countries around the world, and was the best-selling single worldwide in 2008. She was proclaimed 'Top New Artist' by Billboard magazine in 2008. Lewis released her second album, Echo, in 2009. Her debut tour, The Labyrinth, took place in 2010. Her third album Glassheart was released 12 October 2012. It was preceded by the single "Collide", which became her seventh top-five hit in the UK. With the release of Hurt: The EP and "Trouble", Lewis has had nine top-ten hits in the UK.
Lewis is a seven time Brit Awards and three time Grammy Awards nominee. With her expansive vocal range and powerful, emotive ballads, Lewis has been compared to her idol Whitney Houston.
