It should be noted that this artist originally performed as Walter Carlos and only became Wendy Carlos after a sex change operation. For this reason, several release groups and releases are credited to Walter Carlos.
Legal name: Walter Carlos, Wendy Carlos
Wendy Carlos (born Walter Carlos; November 14, 1939) is an American physicist, composer, and keyboardist best known for her albums and film scores. She first came to prominence with Switched-On Bach (1968), an album of music by Johann Sebastian Bach performed on a modular Moog synthesizer, then a relatively new and unknown instrument which helped popularize its use in the 1970s. Its commercial success led to several more keyboard albums of varying genres, including classical, experimental, new age, and ambient music.
Carlos has produced music for several films including two for Stanley Kubrick, A Clockwork Orange (1971) and The Shining (1980), and Tron for Walt Disney Productions (1982).
