We Are Here! This may be considered a bold statement from an emerging band but take note: GoGoBot mean business. Bursting onto the Scottish music scene in 2010 with a strident mix of synth anthems with a pounding rock base and infectious pop melodies, GoGoBot have proven to be a refreshingly difficult band to pigeon hole.
Consisting of Marko Kelly (lead vocals and guitar), Rosie McClune (bass) and Gordon McNeil (drums), the band has developed a unique sound fuelled by their own eclectic taste and purpose. Vast arrays of influences such as Scissor Sisters, Sparks, Muse, Bjork, Queen and Rush have merged to create a distinctive spectrum of sound. The group are not afraid to try new things and are keen to push boundaries with their music which is simultaneously grandiose and intimate, melancholy and exuberant. Their lyrics contain reflections of feelings and thoughts told with dark humour and intimacy, cleverly disguised within quirky pop hooks.
They refer to their music and attitude as ‘DIY’, building and kitting out their own studio in order to create a space which would accommodate their unique sound. Thus far the effect of their construction has been far reaching. The band have already garnered airplay from significant broadcasters such as Ally McCrae (BBC Introducing), Vic Galloway ( BBC Radio 1), Billy Sloan (Clyde 1) and Jim Gellatly (Original 106).
Seeing GoGoBot performing live is a spectacle of raw energy to a backdrop of bold melodies, and expressive lyrics. From previous support slots with Glasvegas, the band have gone from strength to strength, and in 2010 embarked on their first festival tour playing Rockness, Wickerman and Belladrum festivals. The band have gotten off to a flying start in 2011 playing a storming set at King Tut’s as part of the New Years Revolution festival and appeared as special guests as part of the seminal Heaven 17’s Penthouse and Pavement Tour. The band recently made a triumphant return to Rockness in 2011 playing on the ‘Sound City’ stage sharing the festival lime light with the likes of Paolo Nutini, Kasabian and Example, holding their own amidst some of the industries greatest.
Forthcoming festival appearances include support for chart topping band JLS and Olly Murs at Royal Highland Centre in Edinburgh on July 1st, The BBC Introducing Stage at T in the Park on July 10th,
Guilfest Festival on July 15th alongside the legendary Roger Daltrey and Echo and The Bunnymen and as special guests of Simple Minds and Big Country at this years ‘Summer In The City’ festival in Inverness on July 16th
To mark their arrival, GoGoBot will be releasing six singles over 2011 from the ‘See Saw Series’ showcasing the bands musical diversity and eccentric spirit. The singles will feature the artwork of prominent Glasgow based artist Erin McGrath. The songs have been mixed by LA music producer Paul Lani (who has worked alongside David Bowie, Prince, Robbie Williams and U2 to name but a few). This is just a taste of things to come from the innovative threesome.
