In 2009 Ramon travelled to Dakar to discover the birthplace of the blues and expand his musical horizons. There he played with the finest West African musicians culminating in the 2010 release of the CD “Mansana Blues” (Dixiefrog Records), a collaboration with kora player and Senegalese griot, Diabel Cissokho, that combines blues and African music in what one reviewer has described as the World Music CD of the decade.
He produced, co-wrote and played on the ground - breaking “ Drew , Mississippi ” (Black and Tan Records) with delta blues artist Boo Boo Davis (voted in the top 10 Blues albums of 2006 by MOJO magazine). Ramon formed the seminal blues/hip hop group Nublues which released two acclaimed albums: “Dreams Of A Blues Man” & “Snow On The Tracks” (Dixiefrog/21st Century Records) .
As one of the most versatile Blues guitarists of his generation he has worked with Chris Thomas King, the multi - Grammy Award winning Bluesman and actor (“Oh Brother Where Art Thou”), Julian Joseph, Justin Adams and has toured with luminaries such as Pee Wee Ellis (James Brown's band leader) and multi-talented singer-songwriter Eric Bibb.
As well as fronting his own band, Ramon recently has formed The West African Blues Project, this is a meeting of minds; a meeting of cultures and two styles of music that seem to blend so well together it seems just natural . No two concerts are the same as each one offers a different powerful line-up of the cream of West African & Blues artists (sometimes with a few surprises). The result ? A fabulous blend of intoxicating sound!
