Thaddeus Joseph Jones indeed was a great trumpetist, and a no lesser great composer and arranger.
He worked extensively for Count Basie, and co-led the Thad Jones/Mel Lewis Big Band for twelve years, before he relocated in Denmark.

An excellent beginning with Thad is on Debut, simply named Thad Jones.
