The Clan (Motown composers/producers group)
~ Group
Annotation
Because of the lack of hits in 1967 for Diana Ross & The Supremes Motown label chief Berry Gordy summoned his writers to work en-masse and checked them in on Friday 13th 1968 at the Pontchartrain Hotel in Detroit. They where told not to leave until they wrote a hit. In the hotel were Berry Gordy, Frank Wilson, Pam Sawyer, Deke Richards, R. Dean Taylor and also Henry Cosby.
The group set to work on a hit single for Diana Ross & the Supremes, Love Child. Berry Gordy did not want to draw attention anymore to the names of the composers and producers like happened with Holland-Dozier-Holland and demanded to call themselves "The Clan".
In later (re-releases) the separate names were used again.
